a step forwards

for you and your family

Hello!
First and foremost, let us say welcome and congratulations for making the decision to return to the workforce. As a family-run business, we understand how big a decision this is and know that right now, you will likely be filled with trepidation and a million questions.
Don't worry, we are here to support you and your family during this transition and assist you in not only finding work within the Early Childhood Education and Care profession, but a rewarding and flexible career as well. Below are some of the most common questions and queries we get asked by people in your position, so we thought we would jot them down for you. Should you have any other questions or queries, go along to the bottom of the page where you will find a Contact Form and one of our Greenhouse Education Student Care team members will be in touch.
I'm not currently Qualified
In Australia, all employees in the Childcare profession are required to have a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care as a minimum. If you haven't previously obtained this Certification, then this is where you start.
I am already Qualified
Fantastic! Depending on how long it has been since you studied, you may want to consider doing one or more of our Professional Development workshops. These are an affordable way to re-familiarise yourself and get up-to-date with current industry theory and practice. They are also a great way to network with others in the profession.

Interested in running your own Family Day Care or being a Room Leader / Centre Coordinator? Perfect! Then our Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care is definitely for you. For more guidance, speak to one of our Greenhouse Education Student Care team members. They can help you identify a career pathway and suggest the best courses or workshops to help you achieve this.

It's been a long time since I studied
We understand! It can be daunting to consider returning to a classroom environment after all this time. For that reason, our Courses are delivered through a balance of classroom-based lesson delivery (tutorial learning) in small groups, with a very experienced Senior Trainer and Assessor from the Childcare Profession there to answer every question you have; and practical on-the-job learning where you get to put all of that theory into practice. At any point, should you need more help, your Trainer and Assessor is available for one-on-one meetings and study assistance. There is no confusing and time consuming online lesson delivery, you have a real person to talk to and learn from at all times.
I'm nervous about starting work in a Care Room
Starting any new job is daunting, so don't worry, you're not alone! We have a simulated Care Room on-site at our Teaching Premises, to enable you to practice theory in a safe and secure setting before you even step foot into an actual Care Room. We also have plenty of experienced staff on-hand at all times to answer any other queries you may have. You're in good hands, we promise. We will make sure you have the skills and confidence necessary to be a competent and successful Early Childhood Educator.
I don't have access to the equipment necessary to study
As an enrolled Greenhouse Student, you have access to the Greenhouse Common Room, which has computers, printers, scanners and anything else you may need to complete your studies. This is free of charge for enrolled students. Clarkson Public Library is also walking distance, should you need more privacy or information.
I have small children still at home
We understand how difficult it can be to balance work and home life. There is an Atlantis Childcare facility on-site at our Ocean Keys premises, so you can drop your little ones off and pick them up when you're done. Check in with Centrelink on possible Childcare Rebates and Entitlements you may be eligible for.
I can't afford tuition fees upfront
We have fortnightly and weekly payment plans for those who can't afford the tuition upfront. We will work with you to ensure finances won't get in the way of you achieving your goals.
I don't have a Work Placement or Traineeship lined up yet
Part of our Enrolment Process is to help you find a Work Placement or Traineeship, depending on your circumstances. We will also assist you with obtaining the necessary Police Clearance and Working with Children Check before commencing as well.

testimonial

I am so grateful that I chose Childcare as my career all those years ago! As a Mum of 5 children, under the age of 30 and a FIFO wife, there was no other career that would have allowed me the flexibility I needed. With limited support and needing to work full-time, I was able to take my children to work with me and earn a living while watching them play, learn and grow. I always knew the hours and shifts I needed to work and was able to work around them.

Most importantly, my children LOVED their time in the Centres and I never had to feel those inevitable "Mum Guilts" we all get because I was still with them and they were with their friends.

Why go into Childcare?

The Early Childhood Education and Care profession is actually perfect for parents looking to return to work. Why? We're so glad you asked.

  • Flexibility in hours: there are a wide range of different shifts within the standard twelve-hours of operation so your work can fit around your lifestyle. Whether it is soccer practice, ballet classes or piano lessons - you can work and still participate in those special activities that create memories.

  • Bring your children to work: if your children are young enough, you can have your children at work with you and have the added benefit of watching them grow, learn and interact with other children.

  • Career progression: whether you have ambition to run your own Centre or be a Room Leader, Childcare always has new doors to open for those who want to move onward and upward. There are also plenty of opportunities for personal and professional development.

  • Rewarding job that gives back: most of the parents we have working for us say they suddenly felt the need to care for other children the way they cared for their own. It is this passion for the love and care for children that really sets Early Childhood Professionals apart from others.

  • Empathy for working parents: who better to understand the needs of working parents and mothers than... yep... working parents and mothers! It is this position that makes Mums such desirable employees and successful business owners in the Childcare industry.

  • Every day is different: this is not your average 9-5 job. Children bring a certain magic to every day and no two days are ever the same!
